Notes[edit | edit source]

Nanyang consists of hilly areas, meaning that there are almost no CtW scenarios to speak of beyond the territory of Nanhai and Min. Scenarios are different depending on what sort of faction you are playing:

  • Non-southern factions - Terra Incognita
  • Both: Surprise Attack!
  • Southern factions - a tactics or hideaway scenario (which?)

Political summary[edit | edit source]

In most campaigns, four factions occupy these lands — Bach Viet, who have their capital in Nanhai, as well as Yelang, Van Lang and Dian. Only Nanban, Hainan and Min tend to be free, but this does not lessen the conflict between the many Nanyang states. Nor does it lessen in others, since many of these states are later taken over by larger factions - ie, Min, Hainan and Nanhai are all rolled into the kingdom of Nanyue, which then shares a border with Yelang and Van Lang.

Dian[edit | edit source]

This is the capital of the Dian kingdom, set by the side of a vast lake surrounded by hills rich with copper ore.

  • Strategic resource: Copper

Nanban[edit | edit source]

Marshland, jungle and hills dominate this region. It is one which is highly treacherous and difficult to traverse, but is still very fertile; its hills being an ideal place for the cultivation of citrus.

  • Strategic resource: Citrus
  • Bonus card: Warpath
Note: This territory comprises South Yunnan, and is named Ailao in the Imperial Campaign.

Nanhai[edit | edit source]

Although rocky and hilly, the lands of Nanhai however host many fertile lands and a great bounty of resources on land and sea, alongside providing a strategic location for trade further south and beyond, and since then has become a demographic magnet attracting Chinese exiles and southern barbarians alike.

  • Tribute: 65
  • Supply centre available
Note: this area covers modern Guangxi and Guangdong.

Hainan[edit | edit source]

Another outpost of the Nanman, this island forms a marine waypoint between Nanhai and Van Lang, and is the focal point for colonies of strange undersea creatures. Hainan is also important, as it links several territories in Nanyang — Min, Nanhai, and Van Lang — together.

  • Strategic resource: Dugongs

Yelang[edit | edit source]

The small state of Yelang is the primary stronghold of the Nanman race south of Jiangnan. A great plethora of fragrant plants and flowers have their home in the many valleys of this land, which could be used to produce fragrant concoctions by our herbologists.

  • Strategic resource: Incense

Van Lang[edit | edit source]

The southernmost tip of Nanyang, this hilly and forested region is the home of the Yue nation of Van Lang. Despite the harsh terrain, there too are vast riches here, including exotic birds who would be the envy of the noble houses of China.

  • Strategic resource: Peacocks

Min[edit | edit source]

The land of Min was once part of the wild lands colonised by the Bach Viet, until recently brought into the fold by their cousins, the Yue nation. While too rugged to support a vast population, Min is honeycombed like many parts of Jiangnan with valleys fertile enough for some commodity crops, particularly sugar. Min also serves as a gateway into Nanyang from Jiangnan via her niehgbours Yuyue, Gongwu and Jiujiang, owing to her location by the sea.

  • Strategic resource: Sugar
  • Bonus card: Requisition Transport

Note: This is the capital of Yue in the Imperial campaign.
