This region is known as the land of the "Hu" ("barbarians"). In it, savage horse-riding tribes vie with each other for slaves, pasture and booty. When not fighting, they can coalesce into one single horde that can ravage Chinese lands, such as during the reign of the infamous king You.

Harsh and unforgiving as this land may be, however, it hosts great potential: various resources may be found here, ranging from strategic resources like Horses and Coal all the way to valuable luxuries like Furs.

Notes[edit | edit source]

With the exception of Tengger, most of Hu is usually snowbound, but Goryeo, Jinhan, Zhongshan and Di are known for their dramatic mountainous biomes, while Sahun and Donghu are very much very open. This state of affairs thus complicates any attempts to attack them, with no CtW scenarios available in most of these territories.

Political summary[edit | edit source]

Resource count[edit | edit source]

Coal Horses Furs Fish Wool Bison Iron Ore Supply: Liao; Di x 2

Liao[edit | edit source]

Winters can be harsh in Liao - but the terrain is fertile and heavily forested, the ground below an earthy shroud covering one of Liao's most important exports - coal.

  • Strategic resource: Coal
  • Bonus card: Timber Boom
  • Supply centre available

Goryeo[edit | edit source]

The southern edge of Goryeo is dotted with mountains, but the north is very much open terrain. It is thus unsurprising that the incumbent regime is highly cultured and adaptable sporting a material culture similar to that of the pastoral Hu peoples to the northwest, and the Chinese.

  • Strategic resource: Iron Ore
  • Bonus card: Treachery

Mahan[edit | edit source]

Mahan is the nountainous south-western tip of the Korean peninsula, and like Jinhan, is colonised by many different tribes. Many of which will not easily submit to anyone's rule except through force.

  • Strategic resource: Fish
  • Bonus card: Eureka — Military

Jinhan[edit | edit source]

Unlike Mahan, Jinhan is dominated by plain and forest, rendering it rich in local wildlife which can then be exploited for furs and pelts. This is the very seat of the Jinhan confederacy — so proceed with caution here.

  • Strategic resource: Furs
  • Bonus card: Treachery

Sahun[edit | edit source]

Sahun is a vast land of hill and plain. Some of the best horses in all of the world can be found here, owned by the fierce tribes of the north.

  • Strategic resource: Horses
  • Bonus card: Treachery

Donghu[edit | edit source]

Donghu is a vast plain of grassland where bison can be found. This place would yield great amounts of food if cultivated, but only if it were conquered first.

  • Strategic resource: Bison
  • Bonus card: Food Boom

Tengger[edit | edit source]

This harsh wasteland forms a border region between the civilised agrarian Chinese and the pastoral nomads of the north. Unsurprisingly, conquering this region should grant a respite to our supply lines by helping to keep the nomad raiders at bay even if only for a while.

  • Bonus card: Logistics

Zhongshan[edit | edit source]

Born of a confederacy of Chinese and Di, Zhongshan has managed to survive for so long against the depredations of her neighbours Yan and Zhao by way of her rulers' astute diplomatic policies, as well as her harsh mountain landscape - the Taihang range has served Zhongshan well in resisting both Jin and Zhao alike.

  • Strategic resource: Wool
  • Bonus card: Treachery

Di[edit | edit source]

The centre of the namesake Di culture in all of China, this land is mountainous, but is revered as the ancestral lands of the Di nomads, many of whom live throughout the northern lands now. If we were to seize control of this place, it would allow us access to Jili, Qi and Han ... as well as a means of rallying the Di to our cause.

  • Bonus card: Missionaries
  • Supply Centre.png available.
