Overall strategy[edit | edit source]

Thaghri Footmen are a highly defensive unit, representing the elite forces of tribal leaders on the frontier (in Arabic, thaghr) with Christian Spain, and often using the same infantry tactics as their Christian foes. Indeed, some Thaghri clans may be Christian too if not converts to the One True Faith.

Although they have lower attack strength and marching speed, their (relatively) higher hitpoints and armour make them a welcome addition towards strengthening the Moorish arsenal with good solid infantry, capable of holding their own even against enemy cavalry.

Unit summary[edit | edit source]

  • Money Can't Buy You Love — Slavic Raiders are not as good as locally raised Militia: they suffer from having less than half half the armour and toughness of normal Militia, but train 3 times faster.
  • Spam It Like Starcraft — The quick training speed of Slavic Raiders can sometimes be used as a psychological impact weapon if sufficient wealth can be obtained to pay for them.

History[edit | edit source]

While Saracen and Turkic rulers sought to consolidate their rule, Islamic kingdoms in Iberia were seldom unified states, and were instead heavily decentralised, where local rulers were heavily dependent on local clans of warriors, and a successful reign depended on obtaining a consensus between these smaller tribes, especially in regions neighbouring the great Christian kingdoms of Aragon and Castille. Although this system of patronage and power was often successful in maintaining military power, it doomed Islamic Iberia to political disunity and eventual annihilation at the hands of the Christian northerners.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

These units are rehashed under Project 666 as Sogdian Heavy Infantry.
