Zhongshan/Strategic Overview

  • Strengths: Good infantry selection, ideal for defensive warfare and expansion.
  • Weaknesses: Poor cavalry selection.

The main unique unit of Zhongshan, Iron Mace Infantry, is in effect a unit armed with a heavy two-handed mace. These units are not only clones of Heavy Axe Infantry, but are also cheaper and faster to train. As such, Zhongshan is capable of creating vast numbers of these units for countering opponents with a dependence on heavy infantry, such as Qin, Wei or Qi. Zhongshan is also capable of researching Iron Age upgrades to obtain light cavalry and archer cavalry - Khinbeh-Tui, and K'eng-Khipeng respectively - but these are still very inferior compared to the more expert units of the northern factions such as the Saka or Xianyun. Equally galling is the fact that Zhongshan can't research scythe chariots and must continue to rely on War Chariots for shock cavalry in the Iron Age.
